Survey Trainee

Full-time, Kāpiti

We’re seeking a motivated person to join our team in Kāpiti as a Survey Trainee.

You don’t need surveying experience. You don’t need to know the equipment, the software, or the technical language. We can teach you all of that.

What we’re really looking for is someone who is motivated, hard working, and keen to learn.

What is a Survey Trainee?

This is a rare kind of job. Some days you’ll be outside, working on real sites, helping collect measurements and information from the land. Other days you’ll be indoors, using software and technology to help turn that field information into plans, data, and useful information for clients, engineers, planners, builders, councils, and landowners.

It’s practical, technical, varied, and genuinely interesting.

You’ll be part of projects that shape our local communities – from land development and housing through to infrastructure, construction, and engineering works. We have been involved with Waikanae Skate Park and Maclean Park. You’ll learn how land is measured, how boundaries are defined, how infrastructure is set out, and how survey data helps projects move from concept to reality.

What you will be doing?

As a Survey Trainee, you’ll work alongside experienced surveyors and learn on the job. Your role will include:

  • Assisting surveyors with field work and engineering survey tasks.
  • Helping look after survey equipment and vehicles.
  • Learning how to use surveying equipment, software, and technology.
  • Supporting the team both outdoors on site and indoors in the office.
  • Building your understanding of land development, construction, plans, and survey data.

What we’re looking for

We’re not expecting you to arrive as an expert. We’re looking for the right person. You’ll suit this role if you:

  • Have a great attitude.
  • Are reliable, practical, and willing to work hard.
  • Are humble enough to learn and ask questions.
  • Enjoy being part of a team.
  • Are comfortable using computers.
  • Like the idea of working both outdoors and indoors.
  • Have an interest in how things are built, planned, measured, or developed.
  • Hold  valid NZ Driver’s License and the ability to drive a manual vehicle.

If you’re the kind of person who turns up, listens, gives things a go, and wants to build a real career, we’d like to hear from you.
